Vacation with Friends and Family
This package provides the same accommodations and amenities with more independence for the family group, thus providing lower rates to allow families and groups to have a comfortable fly-in wilderness experience.
For many years Sandy Point Wilderness Lodge has been hosting Families and Friends looking for a truly northern vacation. Northern summers make up for a long winter with long sunny days and warm temperatures. Enjoy the comfort of home in the middle of the Canadian Shield. Away from the stress of work, fill your lungs with the clean northern air. You will hear the loons calling on the lake, the breeze rustling the birch trees and the sound of songbirds well into the calm of the evening.
Relax in the comfort of your cabin with two bedrooms each with two comfortable beds, the main room with a fireplace and a pull out bed to sleep up to six, a bathroom with hot running water, and a kitchenette with everything you need to be self-sufficient.
We will prepare a breakfast buffet for you in the main lodge between 8 am and 10 am each morning as well as provide a shore lunch kit to use. You can enjoy fresh fish for lunch on the lake or at the lodge. You will have full access to the main lodge and kitchen for a group get together or for individual family meals during the evening.
Our staff are eager to ensure your stay is comfortable and pleasant. We will ensure you have what you need for boating including fueling and instructions for use of the boats, the radios, maps and makers for navigation on the lake. We will happily provide fishing tips with rods and nets. We will fillet your fish or provide instructions so you can learn. Packaging and freezers are on site so you can take fish home as well.
Sandy Point Lodge is named for the sandy esker it is built upon and there are other shallow sandy beaches located close to the lodge. In July and August, we normally have long sunny days with a light breeze to keep the mosquitos away during the day, while our screened in verandas and hot tub make the evenings equally as enjoyable.
The water temperature on the lake surface rises to the outside air temperature of 18 deg. C or more and swimming and water sports such as kayaking or floating on inner tubes around the dock is a fun way to enjoy a sunny day.
Around the lodge, we have a par 3 golf course which we describe as rustic, unique and boreal. There is a beach volleyball net, a horseshoe pit, hot tub and a fire pit with tables and seating for an evening get together.
Sandy Point Wilderness Lodge is more than just really good fishing. Whatever your pleasure, there is something for everyone, young or not as young. We have families of otters and other furry water mammals, an abundance of waterfowl and songbirds to view and listen too. It is common to hear guests say that they sighted a moose or a black bear, a wolf or a wolverine. Nature delivers at Gordon Lake.
Explore the history and spectacular scenic views with a hike on Burnt Island. Learn about life in the region before the comforts we have now. Walk around the artifacts at the lodge or at Jackfish Bay and check out the hand blasted prospectors trenches from the 1930s.
Include a vacation or reunion with Family and Friends at Sandy Point Lodge in your plans when you visit the Spectacular NWT and Yellowknife next summer. Time spent here will give you and family memories to last a lifetime.
